लुम्बिनी विकास कोषका उपाध्यक्ष आचार्य कर्मा सङबो शेर्पाको संयोजकत्वमा २५५४ औं बुद्ध जयन्ती तयारी समिति गठन गरियो जसअन्तर्गत विभिन्न उपसमितिहरु समेत गठन गरिएको छ । जसअन्तर्गत कोषका उपाध्यक्ष शेर्पाको संयोजकत्वमा प्रमुख अतिथि तथा अतिथि सत्कार र सम्मान तथा कदरपत्र व्यवस्था उपसमिति गठन गरिएको छ भने लुम्बिनी विकास कोषका कोषाध्यक्ष मझिलाल थारु थनेतको संयोजकत्वमा खेलकूद, अर्थ तथा मंच व्यवस्था उपसमिति चयन गरिएको छ ।
यसैगरी कोषका सदस्य सचिव राजेन्द्र थापामगरको संयोजकत्वमा शान्ती ¥याली, बुद्धपूजा, प्रचार प्रसार, साहित्य, सुरक्षा, स्वयम्सेवक तथा काठमाडौं, कपिलवस्तु समन्वय उपसमितिहरु तथा कोषका योजना प्रमुख भरत कुँवरको संयोजकत्वमा यातायात, आवास, भोजन, स्वास्थ्य तथा सरसफाई उपसमितिहरु गठन गरिएकोे छ ।
नव गठित उपसमितिका पदाधिकारीहरुलाई आ–आफ्नो जिम्मेवारी तदारुकताका साथ अघि बढाउनका लागि कोषका उपाध्यक्ष आचार्य कर्मा सङबो शेर्पाले निर्देशन समेत दिनुभयो ।

| Personal Dynamics Training for LDT staffs |
Lumbini Development Trust conducted two-day training from May 3 to 4, 2010 in Lumbini to empower its staff. The training named Personal Dynamics organized by the trust and conducted by Stairways Management, Kathmandu trained the staff on various topics like Knowing Yourself (Mind , Body , Sprit), Leadership: Communication and Self Confidence, Attitude, Behavior and Change, Self Management and Organizational Behavioral Skills, Team Management, Planning, Decision making, Negotiation, Direction skills, Power of Positive Thinking etc. 27 Participants attended the training. |

The President of Sri Lanka His Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajpaksa visited Lumbini

His Excellency Mr. Mahinda Rajpaksa, President of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka including high level delegation visited holy international pilgrimage and world heritage site Lumbini: the birthplace of Lord Buddha on 30 Oct 2009. He was accompanied by the first lady Mrs Sriyanthi Rajapaksa, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Rohita Bolagama, Minister for Citizen and Water Aviation Mr. Chamal Rajpaksa, Minister for Fishery Mr. Piyasen, Minister for Health Mr. Himal Sripala, the officers of Sri Lanka-Lumbini Development Trust Fund and a team of high delegates.
The high level delegates' team led by the President was welcomed by Culture Minister and Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Dr. Minendra Rijal, Vice Chairman Karma Sangbo Sherpa, Treasurer Mr. Majhilal Tharu Thanet, Member Secretary Mr. Rajendra Thapa Magar, Project Chief Er. Bharat Kunwar, staffs of the Lumbini Development Trust, Monks & Nuns' from various national and international monasteries, Chief of the government offices of Rupandehi district including Chief District Officer Mr. Nagendra Jha were present in Lumbini to heartily welcome the president and entourage.
Karma Sangbo Sherpa, Vice Chairman of the Trust in his welcome speech said that LDT has taken the visit of His Excellency President as a milestone in the pilgrimage history of Lumbini. Meanwhile Hon'ble Minister for Foreign Affairs Sri Lanka HE Rohita Bolagama expressed government of Sri Lanka and its people always positive for the development of sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha. Hon'ble Minister for Federal Affairs, Constituent Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Chairman of the Trust Dr. Minendra Rijal expressed a multitude of happiness to have opportunity to receive the president in Lumbini, the holy birthplace of Lord Buddha. He also pointed out many bilateral ventures and benefits between Nepal and Sri Lanka in many aspects including spiritual tourism in his speech. Mr. Hari D. Rai, LDT explained the master plan and monuments of Lumbini to the President and delegates.}
His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa writes in the visitor's book of LDT " I visited Lumbini the birthplace of lord Buddha as per my childhood dream and as per my speech in the parliament in 1970 to develop Lumbini . And also today hand over the Lankanamaya the Sri Lanka monastery to Buddhasasana." HE President expresses his immense happiness to see his dream come true. The devout President donated 10,000 US $ to the Trust for the development of Lumbini and handed over to Souvenirs to the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Trust and also inaugurated Sri Lankan monastery in Lumbini monastic enclave and handed over to Buddhasasana. Meanwhile, token of love and promotional collaterals handed over by Minister Rijal and Vice Chairman of LDT to the President and entourage.

Protecting the Lumbini World Heritage site and its surrounds Lumbini

The UNESCO World Heritage Centre and UNESCO Office in Kathmandu, in close collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust and Department of Archaeology, organized a three and half day workshop from 18-21 June 2009 as part of project preparation mission to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Nepal. This mission was financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan through the UNESCO Japan-Funds-in-Trust (JFIT).
The purpose of the workshop was to prepare a project document for the protection of the World Heritage Property of Lumbini, its surrounding and associated historic Buddhist Sites with the region. The workshop was attended by a wide range of local Nepalese experts, a team of 5 international experts (Prof. Yukio Nishimura, University of Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Dr. Herb Stovel, Carleton University, Canada, Dr. Augusto Villalon, Cultural Heritage Planner, Philippines, Prof. Dr. Robin Coningham, Durham University, United Kingdom and Dr. Constantino Meucci, Italy) many of them who have already worked on or are acquainted with the site, and Acharya Karma Sangbo Sherpa, Vice- Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust, Dr. Roland Lin, Program Specialist from the World Heritage Center, Paris, Dr. Colin Kaiser, Head of UNESCO Kathmandu, and officials of the Department of Archaeology and Lumbini Development Trust also participated.
The workshop was carried out through intensive group work and site visits, with frequent exchange among the groups. There were altogether four groups, each handed by one or two international experts, who addressed specific questions linked with
• The Master Plan of Lumbini (5mile×5 mile area)
• The World Heritage Site of Lumbini and potential Sites linked to Lord Buddha
• Material Conservation inside the Maya Devi Temple as well as for outside vestiges and Archaeological Conservation for the Lumbini World Heritage Site and
• The Sacred Garden (Lumbini WHS, buffer zone and area beyond the levee)
The workshop was followed by a tripartite meeting on 22 June in Kathmandu which was attended by His Excellency Tatsuo Mizuno, Ambassador to Nepal of Japan, Mr. Bhim Lal Gurung, Deputy Secretary General of the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO, and participants of the workshop. During the meeting the Ambassador was informed of the preliminary results of the mission.
Bye the general agreement of local participants, this was by far the most constructive mission/workshop organized by UNECO for the Lumbini WHS and the related Buddhist historic sites. There was consensus about the necessity to review the Master Plan. Its philosophy, notably the aspects pertaining to the Sacred Garden, has been fully understood. The ongoing developments of integrated Management Plan for the site also received momentum through this mission by UNESCO were also re-examined and feasible solutions were found. The mission successfully accomplished its core objectives by identifying a series of technical proposals related to material conservation, geo-physical archaeological investigations, archaeological resource archiving, local training in technical restoration etc. The main priority will be those projects that can be implemented within the 3 year period under the UNESCO/ JIF and those projects that will have impact for the long-term protection of Lumbini and its associated sites.

Mounting Rate of Tourist in Lumbini

Lumbini, the holy birthplace of the lord Buddha and UNESCO World Heritage site is being exposed as an international pilgrimage and tourist destination in recent years. According to the record of Tourist Information Centre of Lumbini Development Trust, Lumbini, the number of tourists has been raised by 15.5% in 2008. The number of Passport holder tourists was 71053 in 2007, which has mounted to 82075 this year. Approximately, 4,50,000 Nepalese tourists including about 25% of Indian nationals have visited Lumbini in the year. Rapid development activities of Lumbini Development area, informative and promotional activities of the Trust and political stability in the nation are the main reasons of inspiring growth rate of tourists in Lumbini. The Information Centre of the Trust had a projection of increment of tourists by about 30% in the year. However, certain causes like transportation barrier due to political and local issues, political unrest in Thailand, attack and sense of terror in Mumbai and worldwide financial crisis etc affected the expected growth rate of tourist in Lumbini.
Tourists, pilgrims, and visitors of 95 countries visited Lumbini in 2008. Sri Lankan tourists as usual topped with the highest visitors counting 31,984 in the year to Lumbini whereas Thailand has placed in second position with 14,454 visitors. The number of visitors from Myanmar, South Korea, China, and Japan are 5825, 5784, 2261, and 2247 respectively. Lumbini, the international pilgrimage site received visitors from all continents and major countries of the world. Lumbini was fortunate to receive United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon. The nation has been highly encouraged by the eminent visit of the Secretary-General and keen interest shown by him to help Lumbini develop further. The visits of Prime Minister Rt.hon’ble Puspa Kamal Dahal, the then Prime Minister Rt.hon’ble Girija Prasad Koirala, CPN-UML Secretary General Hon’ble Jhala Nath Khanal, Foreign Minister Hon’ble Upendra Yadav and Hon’ble Minister for Culture & State Restructuring Mr. Gopal Kiranty were significant events throughout the year. High level official delegates of PR China, Sri Lanka and India also paid visit to Lumbini in the year. The travel trend of tourists to Lumbini shows increasing charisma of spiritual tourism around the globe. And Lumbini, with its great potential is being developed into spiritual centre in the recent years. |

Lumbini mesmerizes UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon

On his two day visit to Nepal, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Lumbini-the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha, one of the most popular site for tourists in general and global Buddhist community in particular on November 1, 2008. Hon'ble Minister for Culture & State Restructuring and Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Mr. Gopal Kiranty and executive committee members welcome to the Secretary-General and entourage. Former UN Secretary General U Thant who visited Lumbini 1967 initiated the Lumbini Restoration project and the Lumbini Master Plan(LMP) is the result of his untiring effort.
After his short trip to holy shrine, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon writes in the visitor's book of Lumbini Development Trust," I am awestruck by the beauty and profound significance of this sacred site, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
I am moved by the life journey of Prince who left behind all comfortable circumstances to comfort the hard realities of life, late becoming founder of one of the largest religions.
As Secretary General of the United Nations, I sincerely hope that the life, philosophy and the teaching of Lord Buddha will guide us to promote peace, harmony and reconciliation among people of different religions, belief, culture and creed."
UN Secretary General Ban also inspected various monuments, monasteries and other places of archeological importance, including the Mayadevi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar and Sacred Pond during the visit. Hon'ble Gopal Kiranty handover 2 points memorandum and token of love to the Secretary-General and Dr. Keshab Man Shakya Vice Chairman of LDT, briefed and present power point about LMP, which was designed by world, renewed Japanese Architect late Prof. Kenzo Tange in 1978, and about the UN assistance so far for its development.
Of the five UN General Secretaries who have visited Nepal, U.Thant in 1967, Kurt Waldeim in 1979, Javier Prezde Cuellar in 1989 and Ban is the fourth one to visit the birthplace of Buddha. Lumbini is a major pilgrimage site for more than 350 million Buddhists spreading all over the world. Recently conducted survey shows that the segment of pilgrimage visitors to Nepal has increased considerably over the last few years and, Lumbini is expected to attract a large number of Buddhist pilgrimage tourists in near future. Last year 71,053 (except Nepali & Indian) from 84 countries visited Lumbini. This year, 65062 tourists have already visited Lumbini from 86 countries till October. To achieve substantial growth in tourism industry through new programmes, the Government has also declared 2011 as "Nepal Tourism Year" to revolutionize the tourism sector. Since peace and stability has already been established in Nepal, New Nepal is embracing all kind of social, economical and political agendas to keep country's economic prosperity on the track focusing particularly on tourism.
With the visit of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his inspiring comment on Lumbini. Lumbini Development Trust expects that it would boost the tourist inflow in Lumbini creating an image of a must-visit-in –a lifetime.

Tourists increased by 43.26% in Lumbini

Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, UNESCO World Heritage Site presently has been better exposed to the global people. The number of tourists has increased in Lumbini in the year 2007. The tourist arrival data of the Information Centre, Lumbini Development Trust shows that the tourists have been increased by 43.26 % in this year. The total number of tourists' was 49595 in 2006. It has increases to 71053 in 2007 except Nepalese and Indian Nationals. Tourists and pilgrims from 85 countries have visited Lumbini this year. The tentative data shows approx: 400000 tourists from Nepal and India visited Lumbini in 2007. The main reasons for inspiring growth in 2007 in tourists arrivals in Lumbini is because of peace process, political stability, the rapid development of Lumbini master plan project components and promotional activities of Lumbini.
Sri-Lankan pilgrims topped the highest number of visitors to Lumbini in the year 2007, counting 30375. Visitors from Thailand, South Korea, Myanmar, Japan and China are 12880, 5219, 3641, 2681 and 2175 respectively. Visitors from new 9 countries like Macedonia, Peru, Laos, Guatemala, Brunei, Bosnia etc. has also visited Lumbini in the year 2007. There is a great charm of religious and spiritual tourism in the recent days.

Chinese delegation in Lumbini

The Member of Parliament Hon'ble Gobinda Bahadur Shah and ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Nepal H.E. Zheng Xianglin accompanied during the visit. The Vice-Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Dr. Keshab Man Shakya, Treasurar Mr. Majhilal Tharu Thanet, Member Secretary Mr. Ramlal Shrestha, Chief District Officer, Rupandehi, Mr. Dhruba Wagle, Superintendent of Police Mr. Rabi Raj Shrestha, Superintendent of Armed Police Force Mr. Bamshi Dahal, Chairman of Siddharthanagar Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr. Krishna Prasad Sharma and Chief of Gautam Buddha Airport Mr. Chendreshor Pandey welcome to the delegation at Gautam Buddha Airport Siddharthanagar, Bhairahwa meanwhile National and International Monks/ Nun's, Staffs of the Lumbini Development Trust welcome at the Mayadevi Complex. Welcoming to the delegation Dr.Keshab Man Shakya said that Nepal and China have a long and very good relationship from the time immemorial. He further added the contributions of Nepalese princess Bhrikuti and renowned artist Araniko were milestones at building relations between the two countries. Mr. Krishna Prasad Dhakal explained the Master plan and highlighted present situations of development. The delegation paid homage to the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha and visits Chinese Monastery.

28th World Tourism Day celebrated

28th World Tourism Day was celebrated in Lumbini with a great pump on 27 September, 2007 with the slogan " Tourism Opens Doors for Women".
Mr. Majhilal Tharu Thanet, the Treasurer of Lumbini Development Trust heartily welcomed the first arriving guests in Lumbini the birthplace of the lord Buddha as well as an international pilgrimage site early in the morning. The lucky guests to receive by Lumbini were Miss Annette Slaiwk, Germany, Ven. Congty Thien Tai Vietnam with 37 members as well as 12 members South Korean tourists. The worthy guests were welcomed with musical instruments, and smiling faces. The hosts were busy to offer scarves, bunch of flowers and red Tika on their forehead.
The members of Association of Lumbini Tourism Entrepreneurs offered the guests with souvenirs while STDCs around Lumbini area provided locally produced idols and handicraft items as the token of love and Community Multi Users Center provided free internet & email services. LDT staffs explained the Master plan of Lumbini and briefed the guests about monuments of Lumbini including Mayadevi Temple complex. The guests were taken to the Monastic Zone on the Rickshaw provided by Lumbini Mahamaya Rickshaw Pullers Group.

Sri Lankan Speaker Visit to holy birthplace of the lord Buddha Lumbini

Speaker of Sri-Lanka His Excellency W. J. M. Lokubandara and high-level officials paid visit to holy birthplace of the lord Buddha Lumbini on 15 August, 2007. The Rt. Hon'ble Speaker of Parliament Mr. Subash Nembang cordially invites to visit Nepal. HE Speaker was accompanied by His Excellency Sumith Nakandala, Sri-Lankan Ambassador to Nepal and personal secretaries and representative of Parliament Secretariat, Nepal
The team was heartily welcomed in Lumbini by Lumbini Development Trust officials. Senior Archeologist, Mr. Basanta Bidari briefed Mayadevi Temple complex and Mr. Hari Dhoj Rai, an information official explained the Master Plan of Lumbini and threw light on Tourist Arrivals in Lumbini. The team has been visited Sri-Lankan Monastery, Mahabodhi Society Monastery and Lumbini International Research Institute. Speaker and entourage also observed the ancient Shakya Kingdom Tilaurakot Kapilavastu and Kudan the place where the lord Buddha and his father Suddodhan met for the first time after his enlightenment. |

Cultural Minister Visits to Lumbini
5 - 6 August, 2007
Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Mr. Prithvi Subba Gurung visited to the sacred birth place of Lord Buddha Lumbini on 5 - 6 August, 2007. Newly appointed Vice-Chairman of Lumbini Development Trust Dr. Keshab Man Shakya accompanied the Minister. The employees of the trust hearty welcomed the team. The team had a discussion and interaction with staff and officials of the trust regarding present activities of LDT. The team with schedule of formal and informal meetings stationed at Lumbini. The Trust warmly received Hon'ble Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary of CPN UML as VIP guest. General Secretary Nepal gave directions to the staffs and Minister speaking at the welcome program. Minister Gurung described about the potential of Lumbini to boost whole economy of the nation. He added that the Ministry is lobbying various national and international parties for development of Lumbini and expressed his hope that Lumbini would get speedy development in leadership of Dr. Shakya. Vice Chairman Dr. Shakya expressed his vision making analysis of stakeholders of Lumbini. Project Manager Mr. Krishna Prasad Dhakal briefed about the master plan of Lumbini and current development activity of trust and Mr. Hari Dhoj Rai, an information official threw light on tourist travel trend in years. Mr. Ramlal Shrestha, the Member Secretary of the Trust, had conducted the program.
The Minister and Vice Chairman inspected present development activities and gave necessary instruction to the staffs. The staffs have been highly motivated by the visit of General Secretary Mr. Nepal and the Minister. The visit has circulated new and fresh inspiration among the staff. |

Srilankan Foreign Minister HE Rohitha Bogollagama and entourage visited to the Sacred Birthplace of Lord Buddha Lumbini on 2 July, 2007. Mr.Majhi Lal Tharu Thanet Officiating Vice-Chairman, Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha Member-Secretary of LDT and Chief District Officer Mr. Dhruba Wagle welcome to HE at Gautam Buddha Airport, Bhairahawa and accompanied during visits. HE Bogollagama toured places of historical and religious importance, including Mayadevi Temple, Srilankan Monastery, Mahabodhi Society Temple and Lumbini Museum. Bogollagama also visited the ancient Shakya Kingdom Tilaurakot Kapilavastu. |
